Add EBs to the Matrix

Use Command+B or Tools>New EB Panel to display the New Event Block Panel to create additional EBs at any time.

New EBs appear on the Matrix along the left edge of the current window.

TIPS FOR ADDING EBs

Underline text in source

When entering text from a written source, before you start, underline the actors and actions you will be entering.

Minimize manual positioning effort

Before building the EB, use the Jump Map to display the area of a large Matrix where the EB will be added.

Minimize EB size

Before building new EB, use Catalyst>Preferences > uncheck all boxes except Object to reduce size of EBs and display more EBs in Matrix.

Show more EBs on Matrix

Use the zoom out tool to display more EBs on the worksheet. Use zoom in tool to return to normal size.

Segment matrices

For complicated occurrences, when times are available or could be estimated , create a master matrix, and then create smaller matrices to import into the master matrix when they are relatively complete.

Distribute  Tasks

Distribute investigation tasks among investigators, and let each investigator prepare a Matrix with one or more fixed times, then merge their files with others when finished.

After building an EB,

  1. Position EBs individually manually in a window, or
  2. Use Command+T to set the sequence of the EBs by their time entries or
  3. Use Option+Command+T to set EBs in their current relative positions.
Caution: Option+Command+T will replace begin times that may have been entered manually in some of the EBs with calculated relative times
