Configure Preferences

Investigation Catalyst menu > Preferences

This menu is used to set display options for the MES Matrix and the event block, Diamond and comment panels. All preferences can be changed as the project progresses. The Preferences panel looks like this when you open it:

Matrix Display tab

Click on a box to toggle a check mark on or off. If the Matrix is displayed, the display will change to show the changed configuration. If it is not displayed the panel will open showing only the checked columns.

Event Block:

The checked items in this panel are displayed in the EBs in the Matrix, and in exported or printed outputs. The size of the EBs on screen can be reduced by reducing the number of elements displayed in the EBs. Click on a box to check or uncheck a box.

EBs displayed in a Matrix window will change on the screen as items are checked or unchecked. The larger the Matrix, the longer it taks to modify all the EBs. Delays of a second or two on large files may occur.

Time Line:

The time line can display either the date or the time or both. A check mark indicates what the time line will display. Click on a box to toggle a check mark on or off.

If the Matrix is displayed, the display will change to show the changed configuration. If it is not displayed the panel will open showing only the checked columns.

Table Column Display tabs

This panel specifies the columns displayed in the tables in the Panels shown in the Tabs, including the EB Panel,the Diamond Panel and the Comments Panel on the screen, in the panel printouts or in exported panel files.


Click on a box to toggle a check mark on or off. If the panel is displayed, the display will change to show the changed configuration. If it is not displayed the panel will open showing only the checked columns.

Change the sequence of the columns on screen when a panel is displayed by dragging the columns into their new position.


Event Block Panel

Select this Tab and click on a box to toggle a check mark on or off. Change the sequence of the columns dsiplayed on the screen when the panel is displayed by dragging the column titles to their new position.

Diamond Panel

The Diamond Panel column list covers the three Diamond Panel panes, each containing a table with column labels show on the list. You may wish to review the Create Diamonds help before attempting to change these defaults.

Click on a box to toggle a check mark on or off. The sequence of the columns can be changed on screen when the Panel is displayed by dragging the columns into their new position.

Comment Panel

Click on a box to toggle a check mark on or off. Change the sequence of the columns on screen when the panel is displayed by dragging the column heads to their new position.

Other Tab

You can tell Catalyst-MES to do nothing when opened, to open a blank Matrix, to open the file last saved, or to show the open menu dialogue. Click on a box to toggle a check mark on or off. The next time Investigation Catalyst is launched, it will do what is checked.

Configure Views

Display Title Box

Click on View > Display Title Box to toggle the check mark indicating the Title Block will be displayed below the tool bar. The Title Box will appear/or disappear in the Matrix window.

Display Jump Map

The Jump Map is a navigation tool to ""jump" to different parts of a Matrix as the Matrix grows beyond what is visible on the screen. A blue rectangle in the Jump Map outlines what is displayed on the screen. To view a different part of the screen, click on the jump map, then click on the target area. The rectangle will move over the selected area of the Matrix, and the screen will display that area.


Display in Matrix

Moving the mouse to View > Display Jump Map > Display in Matrix will position the Jump Map in the lower right corner of the Matrix.

Display in Window

Moving the mouse to View > Display Jump Map > Display in Window places a movable Jump Map window anywhere on the Matrix.

Do not Display

This hides the Jump Map display.


Configure Actor Column Width

Change the width of the Actor column on the left edge of the matrix at any time by dragging the small box in the middle of the separator between the actor column and the main Matrix area to the right or left.

Customize Tool Bar

Customize the default Tool Bar to serve personal computer practices. To change the Tool Bar configuration, simply Control click (right click) anywhere on the Tool Bar background to bring up the Tool Bar configuration window.

Text and Icons

In the Tool Bar menu, click on Text, Icons Only or Text Only to set what is displayed in the Tool Bar. If Icons are selected, the Tool Bar will display large icons, unless the Use Small Icons is checked. The Tool Bar changes when the check marks change.

Customize

Select this option to add icons from Icon Window to the Tool Bar or use the default Tool Bar icon set. Remove Icons from the Tool Bar by dragging them out of the Tool Bar with the mouse.


When the Tool Bar customization is complete, click DONE button to close all customizing windows.
